Sexual Violence and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Uganda
Kwagala Betty
Gender-based violence has a direct impact on women's reproductive health including risky sexual behaviors and STDs among women. This book examines the relationship between spousal sexual violence and the risk of sexually transmitted diseases among ever-married women in Uganda. More specifically, the book identifies the characteristics of ever-married women experiencing spousal sexual violence, determines the characteristics of the spouses perpetrating spousal sexual violence among ever-married women and assesses the relationship between risky sexual behaviour and STDs. A sample of 1749 ever-married women was selected from the main dataset of UDHS 2006 for further analysis. Univariate, bivariate and logistic regression analyses were used. From the analysis, one in every four (25%) and nearly two out of every ten (15%) ever-married women reported experiencing SSV and STDs respectively, in the last 12-months preceding the survey.
